Phantom Shakers, Motor City's Rockabilly Sensation, Play Farewell Show
Fresh off their debut European tour, new EP "Right Behind You Baby" in hand, Phantom Shakers make their farewell appearance in Detroit, Thursday, February 21, 2013, before embarking on a new adventure in the "Live Music Capital of the World" – Austin, Texas.
The 2008 love child of premier rockabilly duo Markie D (guitar) and Elle Mae (vocals) has not only revived a male dominated local scene, but has mixed up a perfect cocktail of traditional vixen driven rockabilly and Detroit's main squeeze-garage rock, earning them a loyal cult following.
They have been featured in a host of local and national music festivals, including the Metro Times Blow Out and Arts Beats and Eats, as well as high-profile festivals like the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender – the largest rockabilly festival in the World.
"We never thought doing this would take us where it has," says front-woman Elle
Mae. "It's always just been about a couple of misfits trying to make some music, so we are thrilled to have the opportunity to represent Detroit in Austin."
The duo will continue to work with their Detroit crew, Rayce Ribble (Upright Bass) and Nick Thibodeau (Drums), as they remain true to their roots and will pick up players out West as the need arises.
Their new EP features the gem by local trailblazer Johnny Powers, "Long Blonde
Hair," as well as a diverse sample of originals, from the edgy number "Queen of
This Town" to the sultry Latin ballad "Forbidden" to the now seemingly prophetic song "High," which employs the Texas Swing sound indicative of Austin's roots music scene.
