In eleven chapters The Teaching Power of Dreams explains the history and study of dreams often citing Carl Jung and Sigmond Freud. This volume also note of vaious types of dreams, and illustrates how to have a better recognition of your dreams and how to take an active role in them to positively affect your life. Keeping a journal by your bed to jot down your dreams is highly recommended. When patterns are seen develop a dialogue with yourself right before sleep. For instance if you have a reoccurring nightmare of being attacked visualize yourself defending yourself. Therapy also helps those who have nightmares. Not surprisingly a large percentage of individuals suffering from nightmares have significant traumatic past experiences. A therapist is recommended over a dream symbol book in developing a fuller comprehension of dreams since symbols' meanings can vary from person to person.

Sleep research centers are expanding our understanding of dreams and health. Dream time during sleep is essential. In a study where subjects were deprived of dream time the results were dire. The subjects were highly irritable and not able to function at a safe level. Sleep is very important much like food for good health. A sleep deprived and dream deprived individual is a danger to society. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who values their sleep and their dreams.
