Words & Rhythms of The D! - Music Hall - Sat April 26th

Words and Rhythms of the D
Saturday, April 26th 2008
WHO? Talented and Artistic Detroit area Students
WHAT? Words and Rhythms of the D
WHERE? McDonalds 14124 Woodward Highland Park, MI 48203
WHEN? Saturday, April 26th, 5-8 PM
WHY? "Words and Rhythms of the D" Was created as a spin-off from the History of the Word - a spoken word play based out of New York that promotes literacy through poetry.
It also has inspired a monthly series that takes place twice a month at the Jazz Cafe at Music Hall and at select McDonald's locations - two Saturdays a month , hosted by local rapper and poet, Fluent.
Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts Education Outreach Program along with McDonalds have created a program that challenges Detroit area students to express their thoughts creatively in an artistic forum where 45 of the best students works will be included in The Music Hall's first-ever anthology of poetry to be published by the sponsor, McDonalds.
Music Hall's Education Outreach Program hopes to inspire artistically inclined students a chance to compete and perform their literary creations in a setting outside of the school and recreation centers, with the ultimate goal of seeing their works published.
In a city that has a literacy rate of 47% and a high school graduation rate of 24.9%, Words and Rhythms of the D is a fun and competitive way to express the feelings through words, in a healthy and fun environment, one that fosters independent, creative activity that may serve as a spark for more students to read, write and retain hope for their academic future
Music Hall Education Outreach Program encourages all of our media friends- including editors and producers, to consider covering this fun and important literary event. If you seek a positive local story, one that focuses on improving the lowly literacy status quo- Words and Rhythms of the D will provide you with a hopeful and inspirational angle
